Educational Opportunities
Youth Sunday School
St. James enthusiastically welcomes children and young people of all ages. We recognize that their presence is so important to the future of the Church. Unfortunately, the number of young adults and youth has declined, impacting the number and format of classes. Previously, there were two groups, elementary and youth. Various curricula were offered under the guidance of the rector and using Diocesan resources. For these groups we hosted a traditional yearly Easter Egg Hunt. During the pandemic the tradition continued, a “bucket of eggs” was delivered to the St. James children. Last spring, the tradition was expanded and Easter baskets were provided to the children as well as to shut-ins.
We feel it is so important to provide for the youth of the church, as we realize they are the “future!” We hope to reinvigorate the parish with young children to become active and grow this area.
Adult Bible Study
We think that faith, reason and tradition are worthy of lifelong study. We believe that by following these paths of study, we draw closer to God. Two Adult Bible Study sessions were offered on Sunday mornings until COVID became a public crisis, at which time we were forced to move the studies to an online format. Unfortunately, the format was difficult to sustain, so it was ultimately discontinued. In-person studies are in the process of being reintroduced. Additionally, we hope to make Christian Formation available online for those who are homebound. Plans are being developed to renovate our Guild Room, including the installation of a smart screen/TV for meetings, presentations and Bible study to be offered for those who want to be included but cannot attend in person.
EfM
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year program consisting of Bible Study, Christian history and theology that encourages participants to examine their faith with others. It also puts their faith into the context of their experiences. EfM is designed to create a stronger and more informed laity with a greater passion for Christian Mission.
This program intensified Christian fellowship within the parish and the mission area of the Diocese. Exploring our faith through intense study and theological reflections creates lifelong bonds among participants. The foundation for this program is strong within the parish. We hope that we can resume this program.
